In 1987, Father Manuel da Rocha Creoulo, the parish priest, founded Rádio Boa Nova in Santo António de Vagos, based on Christian values, with the aim of promoting the municipality of Vagos.
The studios were blessed on June 13th of that year, the feast day of the town's patron saint, although experimental broadcasts had already begun the previous month.
The founder acquired all the necessary equipment at his own expense and installed it in annexes of the parish hall, where the Santo António Folkloric Group also operated.
After about a year and a half of operation attached to the Parish services, in the context of so-called pirate radios, it ceased broadcasting at the end of 1988 due to the new Radio Law.
It was then decided to give it its own legal status and apply for the broadcasting license reserved for the municipality of Vagos.
The Santo António de Vagos Radio Broadcasting Cooperative was then formed, and the radio project was developed, always under the leadership of Father Creoulo.
Once the license was granted and the facilities and technical components were remodeled, broadcasts resumed, now under the name Rádio Voz de Vagos, on September 16, 1989.
Two major milestones in its expansion were the computerization of the studios and the increase in power from 500 to 1000 watts, following the first state support for technological modernization.
This support translated into 50% financing of the project, with Father Creoulo also financing the remaining part.
After his death on July 2, 1999, the radio continued to be run by a group of lay people who had previously collaborated in the management.

Later, a transmission tower was installed in the upper part of the municipality on land that had been acquired, which significantly improved radio coverage.
In 2004, the radio team carried out a general overhaul of the programming, which resulted in a remarkable enrichment of the radio service to the region.
Today, VAGOS FM is one of the few radio stations in this region that, despite the ever-increasing difficulties, continues to maintain the initial project of a radio station for the region. Listen to Vagos FM on 88.8 FM.
